JSCM was established in Ottawa, Ontario, in 2012 with the aim of becoming a proficient and reliable construction management firm. Steve, who has over 35 years of industry experience, has held roles in every sector of construction. Starting his career as a laborer, he rose to become the Regional VP at EllisDon Ottawa before founding JSCM.
Steve has assembled a team of industry experts with a combined experience of over 150 years, ensuring a successful track record in delivering a wide range of building projects. JSCM’s unique strengths lie in serving both public and private owners, often taking on diverse roles within projects. If needed, JSCM has the capability to bond over $100M in projects. Out track record is exceptional and our financial depth is highly respected.
We have been involved in notable projects such as the $540M Bombardier Hangar in Toronto, the $20M Dell office renovation, and the $37M Sherwood Park Manor Long Term Care facility. Our team members have completed projects of varying sizes and sectors, from small fit-ups to massive restoration and infrastructure projects, with values ranging from $100,000 to over $4B.

Steve Smith brings 35 years of extensive experience in the construction industry, beginning his career as a laborer and rising to the role of Senior Superintendent. Steve's expertise spans all types of construction projects, from design-build and construction management contracts to more complex Design Build Finance Maintain (P3 DBFM) projects. Known for his strong communication skills and a proven track record of customer satisfaction, Steve consistently delivers successful projects on schedule and within budget.

Verena possesses a broad and deep range of expertise in the construction industry. Beginning her career as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), she gained valuable experience working as a Field Engineer at EllisDon. Her dedication and skill have propelled her to her current role as a Project Manager, where she oversees a variety of commercial and institutional construction projects.In her role. She excels at identifying opportunities to reduce costs, expedite construction timelines, and enhance project value while ensuring quality and performance are never compromised.
Verena Freitag
Dan brings over 23 years of experience as a Superintendent, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every project he undertakes. He has successfully led projects with values ranging from $5 to $60 million.
His success stems from his exceptional leadership, strong planning, and organizational skills, as well as his ability to inspire collaboration among trades to achieve shared goals. Proactive in identifying and resolving issues, attention to safety, and materials handling ensures that each project runs smoothly and efficiently.
Dan Storey
Matilde has over 15 years of working experience with a strong background in Legal and Supply Chain areas including procurement, strategic sourcing, purchasing, contracts administration, and complex commodities operations in highly regulated industries with the ability to manage end-to-end heavy industrial projects (EPC). She has excellent negotiation skills with a strong knowledge of procurement best practices, governance, compliance, and supplier due diligence and monitoring programs.

He has 30+ years in the industry working at notable companies in the Ottawa and Kingston area. This includes EllisDon where he was first introduced to Steve. Jason has been the Lead Estimator for over $3B worth of projects. He collaborates with clients and specializes in overseeing budgets, value-engineering and creative problem solving
